In 2018, the last ton of hard coal was extracted. This marked the end of the era of over 100 years of mining in the Ruhr region. Together with poetry slammer Jason Bartsch, the Ensemble Ruhr illuminates the structural change after the end of mining in words and music. With the project "Fields of the Ruhr" they succeed in a unique symbiosis of slam poetry and classical music. "The world is everything that is the case. And this case has the following factual situation: In the origin of a harsh sound lies aesthetics, not noise.

Here, where for years and decades every second stretched underground like the tunnels of a grave, the grey of our façade is only the exterior of those who lived, who in their hearts painted bright colours on canvas" (Jason Bartsch) Mysterious and sober begins the text with which the program "Fields of the Ruhr" opens. Together with poetry slammer Jason Bartsch, the musicians of Ensemble Ruhr shed light on the structural change in the Ruhr region - in words and music ... With their project, they succeed in creating a unique symbiosis of poetry slam and classical music about the end of mining.

At first glance, the two art forms have little in common, and yet with this special project the artists find their own approach to the different points of view and time periods of the industrial era.
