Rugged and rude no-wave beat tape from NYC’s Nolife; think an instrumental analog to Death Grips, with the gristliest bits of Scorn and Agnarkea.
Throwing down their debut album hot and scuzzy, Nolife makes their presence felt with a barrage of excoriating noise and bludgeoning rhythms that sound more trampled than a New York sidewalk. The self-described “Brooklyn-based producer, lurker, worker, & participant in the underground NYC music thing since ~2016” secretes his ideas on ontology in relation to the superstructures of religion, culture, and ideology in brutally metaphoric forms that take a real glee in grinding their message home.
Existing in grotty vein of experimental hip hop, noise and mutant beats that connects the ‘90s works of Spectre, Scorn and Dälek to the modern blatz of Death Grips and a wave of scuzzy underground fuckries, it’s a heavily satisfying course of 22 tracks that are bound to leave bits in your teeth and possibly loosen a bit of earwax, ultimately congealing as a dare-to-differ sound that reflects senses ravaged by media overload, and the schisms between the simulacra and reality.
