Orchestra and Chorus of the Metropolitan Opera.

Recorded on February, 1959 at Manhattan Center, New York.

I saw this production when it went on tour almost 25 years ago (sadly the Met doesn't tour anymore) and it was great! A complete Macbeth, including the ballet music, this recording should satisfy any Verdi lover. This production has a surprise, at the end the "death aria" from the 1847 version is inserted just before the final male and female choruses. Although a short aria, it makes for a more intense ending. Milnes is in top form and there is a real bass, Paul Plishka, in the role of Banquo. Renata Scotto demonstrates her skills as a singing actress, even on a recording. I particularly like the way she chides Macbeth after he sees Banquo's ghost. Best of all is James Levine's conducting, none better.

Dear IsraBox,

You should change the comment for the plot. It is from a newer opera.

Kind regards
