There is a connection between medicine and music. This album brings you my original compositions that I have written over the past 10 years. Some of this music was written as a direct effect my patients in family practice had on my creativity.
I have taken care of many patients with Alzheimer Disease to which I dedicate my song Alzheimer Blues. These patients are both a blessing and extreme frustration to deal with. The poor family members that care for these patients are incredibly loving, patient and stressed-out. They need help, and they get really sick too. The song has helped me to be a better doctor for my demented patients and the families that care for them.
Broken Bone Blues is a song dedicated to my many patients that I have taken care of after an unfortunate fall that has them ending up as a hospital admission for surgery, followed by the days, weeks or months of rehab that follows. Many will never be able to live independently again. To make things worse, they often come back with a new fracture some where else, like their shoulder, their back, or the other hip. My medical practice is dedicated to reducing life-threatening falls and treating the elderly patients at risk. This song makes me a better doctor, and remind me that I love what I do.
The title track, Good Lovin' Doctor, pokes fun at my patients. There are so many patients that need to hear exactly what will make them healthy, but they don't want to hear the truth. And even if they do hear and understand how to get healthy, many are unwilling to give up their habits and lifestyle because they can't make that commitment to get and stay healthy. Every patient must be empowered to be responsible for their own health. Sometimes I just want to say, "Shut up woman, and just do what the good doctor say". Its just easier to sing it in a song than to say it to a patient.
