Jimmy Rip has been called many things throughout his extraordinary life in music... guitarist, singer/songwriter, film and television composer, musical director, arranger, producer and solo artist.
Mick Jagger, Jerry Lee Lewis, Willie Nelson, Rod Stewart, Television, Hall and Oates, Deborah Harry, Jack Bruce, Mariah Carrey and Yoko Ono are just a few of the legends that Rip has shared his many talents with.
After years as a much in demand session guitarist in his home town of New York, Rip began a long musical relationship with Mick Jagger, first as a guitarist on Mick's Primitive Cool disc and then as band leader for the tour that followed. Jimmy and Mick got back together in 1992 to make Wandering Spirit on which Rip served as guitarist, co-writer and music director. It soon became Mick's most successful solo record.
After years of helping his very high profile friends realize their musical dreams, he decided it was time to make a record for himself. The result was the critically acclaimed CD, Way Past Blue.
Rip then returned to the studio both as guitarist and producer on countless sessions, of which one of the high points is Jerry Lee Lewis's Last Man Standing. Jimmy was both guitarist and producer, harnessing an incredible list of superstars to aid The Killer with the recording. Mick, Keith, Ronnie Wood, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Ringo and Bruce Springsteen are just a few of the 22 legends who joined Rip to create the most successful record of Jerry Lee's long and illustrious career.
Somewhere in the middle of all that Jimmy found time to become a member of the band Television after almost 30 years recording and performing with Tom Verlaine on his solo projects. They recently released "Tom Verlaine and Jimmy Rip Music for Experimental Film" on DVD.
This long and twisty road has led Jimmy to his new home in Buenos Aires where he has just released a new disc, Jimmy Rip and The Trip and leads his band of the same name. A true "power trio", The Trip is comprised of Rip on guitar and vocals and two Argentinian women, Luli Bass on the bass and Silvana Colagiovanni on the drums.
While in Argentina, Jimmy has shared the stage with leading musicians from the local rock scene. Reflecting these friendships, Andres Ciro Martinez, Ratones Paranoicos, Facundo Soto and Valentino Spinetta contribute their talents to the new disc Jimmy Rip and The Trip.
The Trip's brand of psychedelic blues and vodou rock is exciting audiences everywhere... The disc is out NOW...watch for them playing near you, it's a show NOT TO BE MISSED!!!
