Soul Psychodelicide is a mostly instrumental jam by Prince and the Revolution, recorded while rehearsing for upcoming shows in New York, at the Washington Avenue Warehouse in Edina, Minnesota, on 22 July 1986 (five days after Joy In Repetition, in which a song called Soul Psychodelicide is mentioned). The groove of the song is very similar to how Prince and the Revolution would jam on A Love Bizarre during 1986 shows.

The original jam was almost an hour long, incorporating a lot of the cues The Revolution were rehearsing for the shows. It is unknown if, but unlikely that this jam was intended for any project at the time.

The title of this jam and the chorus may have been inspired by a line from the Chamber Brothers’ song Time Has Come Today from their 1967 album Time Has Come Today : I’ve been crushed by the tumbling tide, And my soul has been psychedelicized.

Prince mixed some twelve-and-a-half minutes down to the song that was released on one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks (sixth song of Vault Tracks part 2) included with the Sign O’ The Times Super Deluxe Edition in September 2020.

Prince would re-use the title for an otherwise-unrelated song in 1989, which was worked on further in 1990. For information on this track, see Soul Psychodelicide.
