Based in Louisville, KY, Lamont Gillispie & 100 Proof Blues is one of the premier Blues bands in the Midwest/Upper South. Playing an upbeat style of Chicago blues, Soul, and R&B, the band has a loyal following in a number of cities in the region including Louisville, Indianapolis, and Cincinati.
Bandleader Lamont Gillispie moved to Chicago at the age of 19 and has opened for many notable acts including John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Koko Taylor, Etta James, Lonnie Brooks, Son Seals and Lonnie Mack. Since returning to Louisville, Lamont has lead several successful local bands for over 20 years. As lead vocalist and harmonica player, Lamont has a unique vocal and harmonica style that cannot be duplicated. Lamont has also won several awards in his career including the Sylvester Weaver award from the Kentuckiana Blues Society and election to the Hall of Fame at Stevie Ray's Blues Bar in Louisville.
Bassist Byron Davies began his career in Austin, Texas. He has toured extensively with a number of successful rock and blues bans over a span of several decades. Byron has played with Lamont for over 10 years.
Guitarist Dave "Spoony" Witherspoon has been a fixture in the Louisville music scene for over 20 years. As a member of a number of local bands, Spoony has a soulful and exceptionaly rhythmic style of playing. Spoon has played with Lamont during several different stints with the band.
Drummer Steve Holmes started his musical career as a young teenager. Steve has toured extensively over the years with a number of rock, country, and blues bands. Steve has been a member of 100 Proof for over 3 years.
Saxophonist Mark Bright started playing in rock and roll bands at the age of 15. He performed with a number of Louisville bands for about 10 years. He then quit the music business for the corporate world. After over 20 years away, Mark started playing again and soon was playing with some of the best local bands. Mark has been with Lamont for about 7 years.
The songs on this album represent Lamont GIllispie & 100 Proof Blues at their best. These are some of our favorite tunes and we hope you like them as much as we do.
