Luminodisco - Understory (2015)

After some five years spent building his reputation via highly regarded singles for Danny is a Drag King and Hell Yeah, Italian producer Federico Costantini delivers his debut album. Warm, melodious and breezy throughout, Understory joins the dots between fluttering deep house ("Understory", "Equip"), sludgy, slo-mo chuggers (see the excellent "La Mission"), sprightly, electrofunk-influenced dancefloor jams, and the unmistakable, homoerotic throb of Italo-disco (see stand-out "Zenigata"). Interestingly, there's a becalmed Balearic feel about much of the material, with the hazy, beatless "Welcome" and "Lavori Forzati" - an almost symphonic, dubby synth-scape - amongst of the album's most immersive, spellbinding moments.
