Caravelli, himself, said it best - "A song, a melody, is like a pretty woman-beauty is there but a wonderful dress makes her prettier.” That is precisely what this brilliant arranger is - an enormously talented designer of settings for great melodies. What results is Caravelli's own distinctive French Sound.
In this collection he directs his attention to two prize-winners in the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest (a kind of super-song Academy Award show viewed by some 200,000,000 people in Europe and elsewhere) and other melodic greats. First prize went to the Spanish tune, La, La, La, which barely nosed out (by one vote) the second place song, the English entry, Congratulations. They are both beautifully arranged and played here - do your own voting!
Maestro Caravelli was born in Venice of an Italian father and French mother. Since he was seventeen he has resided in Paris where he attended the Conservatoire. There his serious classical education did not prevent him from being tremendously attracted to jazz and popular music. In a way. all of these influences have been blended into his very unique French Sound.
You will probably be hearing the two Eurovision prize-winners here for the first time in an album - but all of the other tunes, some of them recorded many times before, will take on a new sheen, a new meaning through the rich Caravelli touch.
