"One of the best countertenors of our days" (FONO FORUM) is undoubtedly Valer Sabadus. "What the countertenor Valer Sabadus achieves in naturalness and coloratura up to dizzying heights is simply overwhelming," was the verdict of Der Spiegel on his latest recordings

On his new album, the countertenor presents timeless arias from cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach with the Basel Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Julia Schröder, as well as rarely heard arias from opera rarities by Georg Philipp Telemann. From Bach's cantatas Sabadus has chosen the arias "Schlafe mein Liebster", "Ich habe genug" in the version for soprano and "Vergnügte Ruh', beliebte Seelenlust", all of which perfectly suit his touching voice. He also sings the aria "Laudamus te" from the Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and "Et exsultavit spiritus meus" from the Magnificat in D major (BWV 243)

Telemann's recitatives and arias are from his rarely performed stage works, all written in the 1720s: "Wo ist das Ende meiner Plagen ... Zeige dich, geliebter Schatten" and "Ich fliehe Dich, vergallte Liebeslust ... Lass in Augen Feuer blitzen" from the Singspiel "Sieg der Schönheit", first performed in 1722 at the Hamburg Opera on the Gänsemarkt, "Ho disarmato il fianco" from the opera "Flavius Bertaridus" and "Mein Feind frohlockt ob meinem Schmerz ... Eifersucht, du Kind der Höllen" from the Singspiel "Miriways". The album also contains an instrumental work: Johann Sebastian Bach's Violin Concerto in E Major (BWV 1042). This typical work from Bach's time in Köthen is played by Julia Schröder.
