Niels Munk - Fantasilaboratoriet (2021)

Fantasilaboratoriet is, as the name suggests, motivated by the spiritual value of art and is by its nature a frontier-seeking and experimental project. Front person Niels Munk Petersen explores new musical landscapes through storytelling based on a traditional melodic language, and the project behind the Fantasy Laboratory is located both centrally and on the periphery of the jazz genre. While jazz is used as a basis for improvisation, the ensemble finds inspiration in modern musical environments and strives to never repeat a musical past. Niels Munk Petersen's Nordic tone is complemented by a harmonious interplay with his long-standing musical partner; pianist Dan Hjorth Jensen. Drummer Jonathan Jull Ludvigsen has, among other things, played with the hip-hop / jazz band Athletic Progression and adds a unique layer of heavy rhythmic complexities to the melodic universes. Bassist Jens Mikkel Madsen is known from the group I Think You’re Awesome and adds his usual joy and warmth to the music. The Fantasy Laboratory is a thoughtful and equilibrist, rich in tradition but also frontier-seeking ensemble that speaks to the curious audience.
