Silver Lake 66 is the soulful, Americana duo of Maria Francis and Jeff Overbo. Their sound combines tight harmonies, strong duets, and sharp guitar work with colorful Americana songwriting. Their duet stylings are steeped in classic country, rock and blues; while their songs are personal and genuine.
Originally from the Midwest, the couple began playing and writing music together during their time in Minneapolis. After several years of recording, touring and playing locally, they packed up the van, guitars, their trusty dog Bernie, and headed to Southern California. While living in LA for nearly a decade, their band, The Ruby Trees, performed in Los Angeles clubs, including appearances at Ronnie Mack’s Barn Dance at The World Famous Palomino Club. While in LA in the 90’s, they recorded a song for the Restless Records compilation release “A Town South of Bakersfield, Volume 3” along with veteran artists Dale Watson, The Hellecasters, and Harry Dean Stanton.
The next chapter for the duo was a move to Portland, Oregon. Sometimes life has a plan of its own, and dreams get put on hold. Health challenges proved to be a game changer for the duo, and music making was postponed for 13 years. Fortunately, fate intervened, and a chance meeting with a community of like-minded musicians in Portland sparked the return to music for the duo, and the beginnings of Silver Lake 66.
Silver Lake 66’s debut album, “Let go or be dragged” features a collection of songs drawn from personal experiences of travel, love, loss and adversity. A group of local veteran musicians from the Portland Americana community round out the vocally driven, warm tremolo laden sound.
