The National Blues is a raw distillation of the classic Preacher Boy sound. Recorded in a shed in the mountains high above Santa Cruz, California, the album has no edits, and no overdubs. Just one voice, one National, one drum kit. Zack Olsen on drums. Christopher "Preacher Boy" Watkins on vocals and National. Original Disruptive Country Blues.

The album features two Bonus Tracks: "Evil Blues" (based on a performance by Mance Lipscomb), and "Baby, Please Don't Go" (based on a version by Bukka White).

Preacher Boy was one of the first modern artists to be classified as “Alternative Blues," and the label continues to apply. For almost a quarter of a century Preacher Boy has been both honoring and redefining the country blues tradition. From his debut release on Blind Pig Records (Preacher Boy and The Natural Blues, 1995) to his latest release (The National Blues, 2016), the core Preacher Boy sound has always drawn on powerful roots—--raw vocals that evoke comparisons to the likes of Blind Willie Johnson and Captain Beefheart, intense slide guitar on vintage National Resonators, and darkly poetic lyrics that draw on personal history and the rich lexicon of American Roots Music.
