01-03 Johann Baptist Wendling's Flute Concerto
They say Mozart added winds part from his letter but Mozarteum denied ! (Mozarteum News 4 or 5 years ago, I don't remember well)

05-07 Anonymous' Oboe Concerto discovered in Poland
They say original is Mozart's Flute Concerto from signature on copy but this presumption is ignored as delusion ?

See also Label

Any other info ?

Original of 04 and 08 is Rondo for Violin and Orchestra K. 373.
Thanks

Just to clarify :

Johann Baptist Wendling – Wolfgang Amadè Mozart
Concerto / per il / Flauto Traversiere Principale / violino 1mo / Violino 2do / Cornu 1mo et 2do / del Sig. Wendling / 1778 (KV 284e)
10 parts – fl, vl 1, 2, vla, bc, b rip, ob 1, 2, cor 1, 2
Copy: 1778 – Wilhelm Cramer, Christian Ernst Graf ( MEANING THEY COPY FROM THE ORIGINAL)

I concluded that it is indeed the collaboration between Mozart and Wendling due to a letter he wrote to his father while in Mannheim, 22. November 1777:

“heüt den 21:ten vormittag haben wir ihren brief von 17ten erhalten; ich war nicht zu haus, sondern beÿ Cannabich, wo der M:r wendling ein concert Probiert hat, zu welchen ich ihm die instrumenti gesezt habe…”

1) The year scribed on the copy is 1778 and that give us a very small and reasonable window of 40 days between 22 November 1777 and 1778 – The other concerto composed just before its from 1777 and published in Paris – wich makes total sense because when Mozart meet Wendling he just arrived from a trip from Paris in November 1777 andhe published ther chez Madame Bérault, 1777 , in the same score they announce the Concerto n.4 in D , but until now we did not find the edition….

2) The Instrumentation: Wendling composed 14 flute concertos between 1749 and 1781 – The only one who has the instrumentation used by Mozart – it’s the GUN 20 – 1778 the others are : Strings ( GUN 1,6,7,11,12,13,18,26) , Strings and 2 horns ( GUN 9,19,24) and Orchestra (strings, 2 oboes, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani) GUN 5 – The GUN 20 has exacletly 2 oboes, 2 horns and Strings as usesd by Mozart until 1778.

3) Quotations : There are a couple of small passages in the 1st movement of GUN 20 that contain hints of Mozart – Wendling: bars 11-12 (same again at bars 45-46, 149-150) / (similar to) Mozart’s flute quartet in D major (K.285), 1st movement, bars 120-121, and bars 54-57 / (similar to) Mozart’s flute concerto in D major (K.314), 1st movement, bars 35-38.

About the Rondo - We recorded here both Flute versions the Hoffmeister from 1801 - first publication with a version never recorded before and the Breitkopf from 1881.

The K.Deest it will be published soon a beautiful book with the flute part from a private collection and the whole process of reconstruction .

Thank you ^.^
We must not jump to conclusions.
I read this kind of things on Mozarteum News but in spite of them Mozarteum said Mozart didn't add anything to GUN20 !
I tried to find that article in vain :(

Mozarteum thinks the concerto Mozart referred to is Wendling's missing one.
James Strauss' quotation from copy isn't correct with typos and arbitrary addition.
Wendling used 2Ob, 2Hr on other works than flute concertos and Mozart also composed many works not of 2Ob, 2Hr.
Whether Mozart's Flute Quartet and Flute Concerto are similar to GUN20 is subjective, not proof enough.

Bayerische Staatsbibliothek says Mozart might add winds part not on score but on other paper because Wendling played seeing score and GUN1 is one of the options.

GUN20 has no problem of harmony without 2Ob, 2Hr ?

Dear Olga ,

I think was another problem with Mozarteum - I never aproach nobody from Mozarteum myself , was this conductor , who toke my research incomplete and announce as if was his own with this Turkish Flutist - and of course I undesteand the reaction of then. I will come to the Mozarteum in the right way with academic articles , shouwing my point or wiew.

But on Wendling : He Wrote 14 Flute Concertos and I got all the Copies All ( Dr. Emily Gunson did not have access to the all sources in hands, I had)- The Flute Concertos she did not had at hands she saw at the "Flötenkonzerte Bis 1850 by Ingo Gronefeld" - As I told you, the only one with 2ob and 2 Horns ( Called Neapolitan combination) its the GUN 20 - No other Wendling Concerto has this Combination. I saw a article in Japanese on this , I can send for you. And They are another important source they even did not talk about- Its the Wendling Concerto n.3 at the Catalogue Bérault from 1777, they announce the publication of the new D major Flute Concerto n.4 (1778) and the BNF dont have this source , and I found it - I am doing an article to publich in France soon.

On the K.deest, they are a flute part and a diferent orchrestral material , we just reconstruct it - the Flute Part its incomplete but from a dutch publisher on the 18th century.

I wouldlove to have a chat with you with Zoom ;)

Best regards

James Strauss

Are you really James Strauss ?
It's a surprise that artists use this site :))
Mozarteum is dishonest :(
They should reply to you !
From wiki Wendling's orchestra works are only 14 Flute Concertos left, no Symphonies and so on.
You cleared 1st hurdle :)
I hope your research will be accepted :)
Best regards too ^.^
