If belgian pianist Eric Legnini's first three albums with drummer Frank Agulhon and double-bassist Thomas Bramerie made him famous primarily on the jazz scene, his groovy sound borrowing vibes from the acid/afro-jazz worlds had many bet he would sooner or later cross some kind of musical Rubicon.
With the release of "The Vox" on Discograph Records, that has become a reality.
On top of his loyal rythmic section, he invited several musicians with clear funk or afrobeat background : bassist/guitarist Daniel Romeo, guitarist Kiala Nzavotunga (who played with his majesty Fela Kuti himself and later founded Ghettoblaster), plus an old-school horn section. Last but not least he incorporated for the first time a vocalist on almost half of the tracks with the presence of american soul/folk singer Krystle Warren.
This supporting combo, who rightfully named himself "The Afro Jazz Beat", brought a decisive touch to the writing and producing of "The Vox". From afro tracks like "Black President" or "Joy", carrying recognizable afrobeat guitar lines, to soul/funk inspired tracks like "I Need You"or "The Vox", this record brilliantly crosses the border with the "groove world" in its widest sense. The final touch will probably be added on stage with a promising tour starting now in France, don't miss them!
