Despite the group's name, more than half the artists who appeared on MONTREAL's only album were Americans, all of them well known in the jazz and folk circuits of their day (Richie Havens, Buzz Linhart, Skeeter Camera and Jeremy Steig). The core group of Canadians were by comparison relative unknowns, and the timing of this mellow, mostly English-language album proved to be rather unfortunate given the nationalist fervor that swept Canada and especially Quebec in the early 70s.

Not much has been written of the band, who appear to have dispersed not long after this album released in early 1970, though Gilles Losier and Jean Cousineau both went on to notable careers as solo artists and collaborators with other known folk and jazz musicians.
