This record is sought after because it was produced, arranged and conducted by David Axelrod, not to mention engineered by Eddie Harris. Personally, I think the first three Funk Inc. records are WAAAAAAAY better. Those three are funky and fast paced. This, and the other Axelrod produced record Superfunk, are really mellow and don’t even have the signature Axelrod sound to them that much. A small portion of God Only Knows was looped for Black Sheep’s Le Menage and Where Are We Going opens with congas before both turn into so-so soul songs. Somewhere In My Mind is probably the best song on here beginning with a funky bass line and low-key drums. Other than that, there’s not much here. I personally believe this is the weakest of Funk Inc.‘s releases, proving that not everything Axelrod touched was gold.
