Malian pop star Oumou Sangaré has announced a new unplugged album called Acoustic. It’s an album featuring acoustic reworkings of the songs from her 2017 album Mogoya. The album will be released digitally on June 19 and physically on August 28 via Nø Førmat. Watch a trailer for the new album below.
“I suggested to Oumou that she record this album after a show in London to celebrate 15 years of Nø Førmat,” label founder Laurent Bizot said in a statement. “At that concert, for the first time ever, she had agreed to try out this acoustic approach, which is all about letting go. The space it created for her voice was really wonderful.”
