Stringtronics - Mindbender (1972) lossless

Stringtronics - Mindbender (1972) lossless

BAND/ARTIST: Stringtronics

Heavily coveted library record from Bruton Music's Peer International stable. The record definitely lives up to its name as it takes baroque elements and pairs them with the funky, psychedelic sounds of the 1970s. It's a collection of tracks from library writers and musicians Nino Nardino, Barry Forgie, Anthony Mawr and Roger Roger. The first side is given over to the slightly lesser known Forgie, who turns in a six track suite that is really what this record is all about. Lush strings, electric harpsichord, balalaika (a Russian, three-stringed instrument), sitar guitar, bongos and more combine to make some of the most sublime library music out there. And some how he does this all without any drums. Fear not, funky break seekers, Nardino's got you covered with "Tropicola" and Roger Roger is not far behind with the groove heavy "Safari Park." Interestingly enough, Forgie conceived the record and completed his tracks first. Once his side was done, the label played his tracks to the other composers and they wrote their songs in response to what they heard. Quite an impressive release amongst the sea of library records out there.
