Peggy's Leg - Grinilla (Reissue) (1973/2001)

PEGGY'S LEG is a band that was based out of Dublin, Ireland and was formed by Jimi SLEVIN in 1972.

SLEVIN (guitar), Jimmy GIBSON (guitar), Vincent DUFFY (bass) and the late Don HARRIS (drums) made up the original line-up of the band.
Even though the band was short lived, and basically unheard of worldwide, they were still quite popular locally and in 1973, were voted Best New Group with HARRIS voted best drummer and SLEVIN voted best guitarist.

In 1973 the band released their debut (and only) album which they named "Grinilla". Their love of transposing popular classical works was proven on this album with one track being a version of classical composer Aram KHACHATURIAN's "Sabre Dance". The album was recorded in 23 hours with minimal overdubs, and is now a highly sought after album that can be rather expensive when it can be found.

Six months after the release of this first album, DUFFY went his own way and a new bassist and a keyboardist were brought into the band. Then the founder SLEVIN decided to leave the band and a replacement was hired, but then the band disbanded shortly after.

Locally, the band was famous for adapting classical music. They also played YES and ELP covers. Their own music tended to lean more towards a classical rock style but also incorporated hints of symphonic, fusion and psychedelic styles. Those that love the earlier sounds of YES, GENESIS, THE NICE, and ELP will probably enjoy this band.
