Dieter Köhnlein - Heinz Und Dieter (2020)

This CD marks a coming-out. The pianist Dieter Köhnlein is actually called Heinz-Dieter and is committed to the unpopular first part of his double name. He does this with ten of his own compositions, which he recorded solo on a large Steinway grand piano in August 2011, the sound of which perfectly reproduces the CD. Two pieces are devoted to the conflicts of Heinz and Dieter and accordingly lively, but in the end quite conciliatory. Otherwise, the spectrum ranges from the introverted "White as a Feather" to the arpeggio-rich, humorously titled "Once Upon a Time" and the rhythmic "Roll of Thunder" to the melancholic "Blues spheres". Köhnlein once again proves to be an imaginative sound painter who does not demonstrate his technical mastery as an end in itself, but puts it at the service of music. Dieter can actually be very happy with Heinz.
