Guadalupe Plata returns to the front page of the music in our country with the output of his fourth album, which, like the previous ones, takes as title the name of the group and the year of its publication. Since the release of its first LP in 2011, Úbeda's blues trio has shown great regularity by releasing the album every two years ('Guadalupe Plata 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017').
Guadalupe Plata is possibly one of the groups with more style of the whole national panorama, very close to the blues but without being able to completely encase it in it, and with a regularity that also keep within their discs, which makes it very difficult to emphasize a Song over another except, perhaps, the singles. In this case it is a fabulous version of "What I got out with you" from the Chilean singer-songwriter Violeta Parra, in which the flute plays a prominent part and gives that personal touch of darkness that reigns in most of the album, as In "Only" or in the instrumental "Navajazo". "Perfect music for sessions of spiritism and exorcisms": this is how the sound itself defines the record.
Once again, they get to get to the instruments the mental landscapes of their composer and guitarist, Pedro, who are not always easy to understand at first. In the interview that you can find in number 393 of La Heavy, I commented that, for example, "Almería", subject that closes the disc, evokes the feelings of being under the pressure of the heat that produces the Tabernas desert. At first glance it can be difficult to catch it, but if you listen to it under this premise, you understand that it hits the spot. "Fear" conveys precisely that, through a very fast and constant drum sound. That is, you will not get to fully grasp the essence of the music of Guadalupe Silver if you only put your records in the background while you cook or go in the car.
If they are carrying their music, and a kind of homemade double bass made up of a basin and a mop with a rope, half the world, including non-Spanish speaking countries, has to be for something. Guadalupe Plata grows like foam and this is simply another step.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I've been waiting MONTHS for this. I subscribe to the excellent UK mag Mojo and, being here in the US, it can be maddening reading about these int'l releases months and months in advance of their actually being available, this one chief among them. And yes, I seek out PAID versions as well but no go 99% of the time (google play, itunes, amazon.uk, etc). I highly recommend their 2015 (self titled) one as well. Insanely good stuff.
