Jacqueline Taïeb - The Complete Masterworks Of The French Mademoiselle (2002)

Tougher than Gall, Hardy & the most of the other Ye-Ye singers, Jacqueline Taieb wrote her own, including her best known and much comped track '7 Heures Du Matin' - a loose re-write of The Who's 'My Generation'. The inclusion of the English language version is a neat touch, unfortunately it's riddled by surface noise. If you want to hear it clean check out you tube.

Considering her talent, Taieb's discography is peanuts. All twelve songs from 1967, which were released via three eps on the Impact label, are present. The remaining two tracks are from her 1979 LP 'La Petite Fille Amour Chez Les Cousins De Miel'.

Sound-wise, Taieb was far less poppy than her contemporaries; she had a better voice than most and was able to hold her own against gnarly guitars and fat drums. Her 1967 output is remarkable for it's diversity: 'Juste un Peu D'Amour'', for instance, fuses western pop with Arab instrumentation - a sort of proto world music.
