Col Joye & The Joye Boys - Yes Sir, That's My Baby [3CD Box Set] (2000)

Yes Sir, That's My Baby is an excellent, inexpensive three-CD Australian anthology of one of Australia's biggest rock & roll stars from the '50s. Col Joye has been called Australia's Pat Boone because of his clean-cut image, versatility, and lengthy career, but the similarity ends there. Joye's music was rawer than Pat Boone's and tended toward country rather than pop. By the '70s, Joye was recording straight country, some of which is included in this collection. While there are many covers of American rock & roll hits for the Australian market, Joye's versions are exciting and very different from the originals. A few songs, including "Sweet Little Sixteen Twist" and "Melbourne City" (a remake of "Kansas City"), rewrite the lyrics of well-known American songs to substitute the names of Australian cities. Some interesting interview segments, television performances, and tour ads round out this reverential tribute to a pioneer of Australian rock & roll.
