One of the biggest challenges facing an artist in this contemporary digital age is without doubt defining who and what their creativity stands for. Between endless social media platforms, a litany of sites to showcase your sound and the endless formats now available to consume music it is easy for any artist, no matter how talented, to slip through the cracks amongst all the noise. In a world where constant self-promotion seems to be an ever more important bartering chip it takes a truly brave and dedicated artist to put others before themselves and work diligently behind the scenes to help other creatives reach their full potential.
A dedicated family man, classically trained on piano, self-taught on drums and guitar, Kingston, Jamaica born artist Claye is well ahead of the curve in utilising his broad ranging talents to define not just his own sound and spirit, but to help others find theirs too; Claye’s musical collaborators are no less his family than his flesh & blood. His musical journey began in his home country writing and producing reggae tracks of surprising accomplishment when he was barely into his teens. Never one to be pigeonholed however, his sound and exploration did not stop there: expertly synthesising delicate strains of his wide ranging influences, from Timbaland and The Neptunes to Teddy Riley and Hans Zimmer, Claye soon became a hugely in-demand producer. He has shared his wealth of musical talent & gift for earworming melody wherever he has travelled and has helped to sculpt tracks for artists as influential and diverse as Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel, Busy Signal, Ky-Mani Marley, Chipmunk, Gentleman & Aloe Blacc and Michael Patrick Kelly. The latter’s iD album earning Claye Platinum status in Germany for producing and co-writing lead single “iD” and album cut “Awake.” As well as helping attain platinum status with Kelly Claye also contributed key cut Hold My Hand to worldwide reggae sensation Sean Paul’s Grammy nominated Imperial Blaze album, the track also featuring Timbaland’s protege Keri Hilson on vocals.
As if his pedigree as a musician and artist were not already assured from the aforementioned, Claye also signed as a singer-songwriter to the esteemed Roc-Nation imprint in 2010, has collaborated with members of musical royalty The Marley family and has, as further testament to his broad reaching appeal, had his music synced on everything from glossy MTV flagship shows to hard-hitting Channel 4 documentaries and world conquering cultural behemoths such as Kim & Khloe Take Miami & The Wanted Life.
A resume containing even one of the above names & achievements would probably be enough for most artists to rest on their laurels and call their career a done-deal but now, after an EP and two albums of his own music which have garnered critical acclaim from key tastemakers such as Reggaeville and a number of other respected music sites (also racking hundreds of thousands of plays on streaming services) Claye has decided to truly step into the spotlight in the manner of so many of the artists he has helped build the careers and dreams of.
Ever the family man Claye explains with a gentle chuckle in his voice “I’ve looked after my creative family and friends for my whole career, it’s now time to show myself the same love and care. As Bob Marley said ‘look after your own and the rest is easy’”

Harnessing the same spirit of passion and commitment Claye has given to others for so long he is now finally ready to unleash his most explorative, cohesive and personal work yet. With a new album complete, three singles already generating a buzz in tastemakers circles both home and abroad and a fully realised live-show which journeys from intimate, acoustic performances that capture the love and spirit of a family man to full blooded club tracks encapsulating the energy, heat and the spirit of his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica, Claye’s journey is only just beginning.
After a career spent tirelessly helping others to succeed, Claye is finally ready to step into the spotlight on his own terms.
