The New Birth - Behold the Mighty Army [Japanese Remastered Edition] (2014)

An overlooked chapter in the New Birth sound of the 70s – one that has the group still working with all that joyous, righteous ensemble energy of their previous records – but with a slightly different vibe as well! There's been a few changes since before – no more leadership from Harvey Fuqua, and instead some excellent arrangements and production from Frank Wilson – plus some vocal leads at points from Leslie Wilson. All the new elements mix together nicely to create a sound that's almost a second chapter to New Birth that's similar to the Whitfield label recordings of Undisputed Truth – all the core elements still in place, but more of a late 70s funk group presentation overall. There's a few nice moogy elements in the mix, too – and titles include "Up Against The Wall", "The Mighty Army", "Your Love Is In My Veins", "Squeezing Too Much Living", and "How Will I Live".
