Heavy power trio from the city of Mesa (Arizona). Mesa was never a psychedelic Mecca, but the roots of “Bliss” and their first incarnation - “The Sect” began there. In 1966, schoolchildren Brad Reed, Rusty Martin, and Corky Aldred formed the band The Sect. A little later they were joined by Tom Smith (bass) and J.R. Lara (tambourine and vocals). Influenced by the “British invasion”, the band gave concerts at the local Dungeon nightclub, changing their name to “The Henchmen” to match their surroundings. But this did not last long, and soon the group again returned to its original name “The Sect”. By the way, Brad Reid was at that time only 15 years old. In the summer of that year, the group attracted the attention of legendary producer Hadley “Madley” Murrel, who listened to local talents. He immediately ordered time for them in the famous “Audio Recorders” to record two singles. By the end of 1968, all five graduated from high school and parted for a while. They were reformed as a trio (Reed, Martin, Aldred), being called “Bliss” (“Bliss”). They reunited with Murrel to record a full-length album, which was released on Canyon Records in 1969. During the recording of the album more tracks were recorded, but then they never came out, but entered the album “Return To Bliss” (2007).
