Norrbotten Big Band - Going North (2019)

Göran Strandberg (born 1949) studied at the Stockholm School of Music and Berklee School of Music in the 70s. He has been a pianist and composer ever since and has collaborated with many musicians and orchestras such as Umo Jazz Orchestra, Scottish National Orchestra and above all the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra with which he made four CDs in his own name.
In 2018, Göran was asked to work as Composer in Residence for the Norrbotten Big Band and he has now composed just over 12 new pieces for the band.

“I wrote the music based on my own musical history as a musician and composer. It ranges from blues-based to more abstract paintings and quick sketches and whistles - all inspired by the orchestra's sound and its soloists.
I have called the concert/record Going North, because it has really been a journey to write for and work with the Norrbotten Big Band”
