Gabriella Cilmi - The Water (2019)

We’ve been fond of the Australian performer Gabriella since catching her years ago at The Duchess (when it was still open) where she performed in the duo All Kings and Queens. Her new solo stuff is far removed from the energetic, electronic performance back then but still exploding with talent. The Water is a mellow Americana effort. Gabriella’s unmistakable, gravelly vocals are the highlight, floating over a piano riff and strings. There’s a show-stopping chorus which Gabriella delivers with real emotion.
