Haendel a composé cette oeuvre somptueuse en 1734 à l’occasion de la célébration du mariage de la Princesse Anne et du Prince Guillaume d'Orange. Construite en forme de sérénade, Parnasso in festa met en musique le banquet heureux du mariage de Thétis et Pélée auquel les Muses étaient présentes. L’oeuvre regorge d’époustouflants arias, duos et choeurs composés avec le brio habituel de Haendel. Les solistes à ses côtés pour la première représentation faisaient partie des meilleurs musiciens italiens de l’époque - Giovanni Carestini, Margherita Durastanti, Anna Maria Strada del Po et Maria Caterina Negri. Avec sa luxuriante instrumentation, cette oeuvre apparaît comme unique parmi les compositions de Haendel. Parnasso in festa fut vraiment populaire à son époque mais tomba dans l’oubli après 1741. Andrea Marcon donne à Parnasso in festa l’attention méritée. On assiste alors à un banquet somptueux pour les amoureux d’Haendel et les passionnés d’opéra.
