With Goodman's compositions, the quintet moves to the limits of what is possible, passing through moments of serenity, pathos, structured chaos and dry humour. His harmonic concept is demanding and full of surprises, the chords and the interval movement of the melody are inseparably intertwined. They often echo with a unique, transcendent beauty. (Marty Cook)

Composing for a small ensemble with two horns has always been Goodman's favorite. This formation allows compositions rooted in a jazz tradition as well as pieces exploring a newer and more experimental sound. "Cadence" dared to make a big change by trying to reduce Goodman's style to several denominators: "Post-Bop, Post-Monk, Post-Ornette, Post-Dolphy, Post-Frisell, Post-everything.

Rudi Mahall and Bill Elgart were in Goodman's original quintet 15 years ago - Goodman has now completed the quintet with the two renowned Munich jazz musicians Matthieu Bordenave and Andreas Kurz. Significant is the common attitude of all five musicians based on trust, risk, curiosity and humor.
