Running Water has got everything to keep you interested: tight string arrangements, good tunes and soulful disposition throughout. Here, Clarence serves up Northern soul gems with a hot side of fires from the Alston label.

Coming from the same camp as Syl Johnson, but a bit more urban and a whole lot more street, the LP delivers a slightly uncomfortable glimpse into his world. The lyrics almost have an outsider vibe, with songs of suicide and vice, but the sting arrangements and production values are top shelf all the way.

The main event is the titular track which delivers 8 minutes and 31 second slow burnah. 1973 was a banner year for music and this joint is no exception. Stone cold groves with classic arrangements and a kicking cover. Fans of Blowfly take note.
