Nightlife: For the 30 ‘years of service’ music producer and sound director Stefan Winter develops ten short stories of the night which take place in ten different cities. Together with Mariko Takahashi he travels around the world in order to find noises and sounds. Winter believes in the narrative powers of sounds. Thus recordings are produced of the sea waves rhythms on Hawaii, waves that run out in never exact identically repeated intervals in the sand of Waikiki Beach. He connects this cycle with the musical sounds of the nearby situated hotels. In Tokyo the noises of the last underground train fade away before shortly after midnight all trains stand still and only expensive taxis are available for a drive to the hotel or back home.

In Venice St. Marks Square arises before the inner eye. The chiming of bells of the Campanile and the strokes of the two gigantic figures onto the bronze bell of the famous clock tower die away, music fragments waft over the piazza, lift and mix in order to ultimately fuse with Puccini’s „Nessun dorma“ (None shall sleep!).

From the collected audio tracks Winter cuts and assembles AudioFilms for closed eyes. He creates soundscapes and musical landscapes of Venice, Shanghai, Honolulu, Havana, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, New York, Paris, Mexico City and Tokyo.

»Nightlife« is being opened with the unique atmosphere of Venice before this travelogue moves on to Shanghai’s Golden Era. Whores, the rich and drunkards celebrate in a forbidden brothel in Paris. Who never visited the famous jazz club Village Vanguard in New York, has the possibility to experience live once more Paul Motion and his trio. And Tangata Rea plays in the legendary tango club El Chino in Buenos Aires for the birthday of the patron. Stefan Winter and Mariko Takahashi want to take the listener on a sentimental journey bearing autobiographical traces. The touching voice of El Negro Ojeda from Mexico City, Trio Tesis and the duet of Roxana Brínguez and Manuel Suárez Silva from Havana are the special features of Winter & Winter. At the end the last train goes through Tokyo at midnight. In the doze the noises are re-lived, pictures are created in the head and disappear when one has to undesirably leave at the last station.
