Chris Joss - Misophonia (2018)

Chris Joss - Misophonia (2018)

BAND/ARTIST: Chris Joss

Misophonia is a condition I've been suffering from since age 6. For 40 years I thought I was the only one tortured daily by some everyday sounds now called "trigger sounds". For me it started with the sound of someone sniffing as I was exposed to it everyday but there are other repetive sounds that trigger it aswell. I saw doctors, neurologists, psychiatrists and hypnotists who all diagnosed me wrong. In 2010 I found out on the net there was a name for it. That other people were misophonics, with the same symptoms, some with different triggers and various degrees of suffering. I'm on 9 on a scale from 1 to 10.
In early 2017 neuroscientists in the UK managed to locate and visualize the brain activity involved when triggered through IRM. This is just the beginning as the rest of the scientific community isn't yet acknowledging it.

The impact of Misophonia on my life has been huge. I'd do all I can not to be in places where passed experiences have repeatedly exposed me to this intense feeling of rage, pain and all the nerves in my body being pulled: public transports, cinemas, waiting rooms, working with other people in a quiet environment or just being with other people including friends and family.
So now I'm making music on my own. I damaged my hearing very young as listening to loud headphones was a way of protecting myself form the trigger sounds around me. Anxiety, depresssion. I'm often wearing earplugs indoors and outdoors to cut myself from the triggers which have increased in number with time.
A consequence of all this is not being understood by most people including ascendant family as unfortunately compassion for invisible disabilities is not widely spread.
I'm vastly simplifying how it affects me and the impact of the lack of compassion from non-sufferers.

Imagine a drop of water dripping on your head every 5 seconds of your life, since childhood till now, whenever you're in everyday situations, you're eating with someone, you're at work, you're travelling in a car with your family or friends, drip drip drip. 50 years of an invisible tap dripping invisible water on your head.
Feels so good when it stops, you just don't want to think about it.
This is actually a big effort on my part to dwell into it and write this.
This is my contribution to bring awareness to this condition.
And I hope you enjoy the music !
