By the time Bobby Robinson inaugurated Enjoy Records in early 1 962 with his brother Danny, he was hailed industry-wide as a hitmaker, thanks to the many smashes he released on his Fire and Fury labels. Danny was experienced too, having run the Holiday and Everlast logos. Bobby's Midas touch extended to the advent of Enjoy, named after a joke book, Enjoy With Eddie, that he'd seen in a 125th Street shop. Its first release, tenor saxist King Curtis' instrumental 'Soul Twist,' sailed to the top of the R&B charts in the spring of '62. It was that year that Bobby Robinson moved to Harlem and opened Bobby's Record Shop on 125th St . From this record shop base, Robinson built his music empire. The common thread that connected all of Robinson's various record labels was his uncanny ability to bring out the best in his artists. While most producers at that time attempted to soften the edges of rhythm & blues singers in hopes of appealing to the pop market, Robinson delighted in capturing raw-edged artists like Elmore James and Buster Brown just as they were.
