Première parution sur le label Soundway du génial Dexter Story, multi-instrumentaliste ayant travaillé notamment avec Kelis, Sa-Ra, Madlib, Steve Spacek. Adoubé par Gilles Peterson, le Californien distille ici son riche background musical dans ce Wondem où se mêlent soul, jazz, funk, folk mais surtout influences est-africaines d’Ethiopie, d’Erythrée, du Soudan, de Somalie et du Kenya. C’est d’ailleurs cette passion et cette immersion dans la musique et la culture africaine durant toute sa carrière qui ont nourri ce disque kaléidoscopique. Diplômé de musicologie à l’Université de Berkeley, Dexter Story excelle notamment aux percussions avec lesquelles il a déjà accompagné de nombreux groupes (The Gaslamp Killer, Dwight Trible, Mark de Clive-Lowe). Avec Wondem (qui signifie frère en langue Amharic), il défriche de belles terres multi-culturelles et multi-genres. Vraiment jouissif.
