Her big fat tone says it all, as Annie Whitehead leads her band through nine largely danceable originals. Much of it has a Caribbean feel, a light touch that possibly reflects the input of co-composer Ian Maidman, whose guitar, bass, clavinet, and programming appears on most of the tracks. Whitehead sticks to plush melodic lines and solos that reflect her highly accessible, tuneful style. The overdubbing of the trombones effectively adds depth. This is not the best example of the trombonist's jazz blowing, but overall, she appears in a positive light. There are so few examples of fusion-based trombone on disk, but Whitehead shows that the trombone can be just as convincing in that genre as other horns. The recording is all in good fun, and while nothing here is supremely sophisticated, it all fits well. Whitehead is the most accomplished soloist in the group; the presence of keyboardist Jasper van't Hof is welcome, but his contributions are modest by comparison.~Steve Loewy
