Combining a host of established and emerging talents under a seasonal banner, the "Winter Particles 2019" compilation once again showcases the wealth of global talent found in the underground dance arena. Eleven tracks now represent the very best in progressive and melodic house and techno. Opening the winter selection box, Greek sensation, Savvas, reminds listeners of his attention to detail and melodic prowess through "Mindfulness", while dub.format and Pedro Capelossi and NOIYSE PROJECT hit the ground running with impressive low-end theory as "Mentalist" and "Myth in Manus" combine huge bass prowess with delicate melodic touch. German star, Wisqo demonstrates why he has been such a hit with the likes of Lump Music and Pipe and Pochet with the elegantly crafted "Limitless" before Kynan Cosma takes a break from his new Sense of Mind moniker to carve out a rasping bass gem and Moog inspired melody in "Sequent" that Bodzin himself would be proud of. Notable for its middle eastern vocal flourishes, E.F.G. then combines a strong rhythmic backdrop and sumptuous chord progressions in "Days and Nights". Veteran, Rick Pier O'Neil, rarely disappoints and "Shining" is no exception to an ever-growing catalogue of prized jewels, with its dynamic energy, bass prowess and sparkling lead motif keeping the French artist firmly on point. Bosnian, Youngen, immediately impresses with the exquisitely crafted and emotive "Atlantis" that explodes into a chorus of counterpoint motifs. Argentina's very own Nicholas Van Orton continues his distinctive groove-laden approach to his craft through "Siete Dioses" as haunting melodies and guitar phrasing play a central role in a mesmerising track. Colombian Dabeat departs from fellow countryman and regular collaborator, Kamilo Sanclemente, to shine brightly on a solo outing, "Beyond the Stars", as gated synths and stepped arpeggio present a strong representation of the title and pitched and warped melodies bend space and time. Continuing the outer space theme, Neptun 505 closes the compilation with a shimmering affair that finds a twinkling lead motif illuminating the "Light of a Non-Existent Star" in an iridescent glow, backed by dominant beat, richly textured pads and ticking percussion. Eleven tracks brightly lit in winter sun gives Particles a crisp, clean edge for its early 2019 collection.
