This fascinating CD presents works written by Claude Debussy (1862-1918) for texts by his friend the poet Pierre Louÿs: The Chansons de Bilitis. Louÿs claimed that the poems were translations from ancient Greek, but the author was actually himself.
The poems are similar to those of Sappho and treat the erotically charged world of nymphs, fauns, naiads, shepherds and ancient Greek gods. The new recording includes the three songs for voice and piano Chansons de Bilitis and the complete Musique de scène pour accompagne la recitation avec tableaux vivents da 12 poèmes by Pierre Louÿs (1903) for voice, two flutes, two harps and celesta.
Also included are the Six Épigraphes antiques for piano four hands (the title is from Louÿs poems) and flute solo the famous Flute de Pan. The convincing soloists of the recording are Elisabetta Lombardi (soprano), Claudia Giottoli (flute) and Filippo Farinelli (piano).
