This Cd is a culmination of 20 years of song writing and 7 years in Gilleys Recording Studio and No Refund Records both in Corpus Christi Texas! Every song on the CD portrays a real event in the writers life. I was lucky to have Dennis Gilley produce this Cd.
Dennis is the cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis and nephew of Mickey Gilley though I personally believe his piano playing is better than or least equal to his kin. A lot of fun was had at Gilleys! I had a group of friends I played music with every Thursday Night called "Mike And The Parking Meters". We did a lot of covers and wrote as individuals and together. "Diamond Bill McGhee" is a tribute to our biggest fan Bill McGhee. Though he did not play an instrument, he was always there to listen and share stories (By the way the song is 99% true..he would always
point out..ha) Rodney Carters "There Goes Another Wife" is straight from the heart, though he did meet and marry his true love Diana after the song. Lol. "Rock Mamma" started off as a jam at Gilleys! Dennis wrote the score and on the way home was humming the Words ..Rock Mamma. We cowrote the rest of the song. He recorded the vocals the next day. I wrote "Throw Off That Headstone" at the Kerrville Folk Festival. I need help on some lines and Dennis and my sister Anny nailed it. Recorded that week! The Corner written by Dan Thornton a lyricist who worked regularly with Dennis came with the Lyrics to "The Corner" Dennis told Dan it should be a blues song and wrote the music on the spot. I walked in just in time to hear it and had to have it on my Cd! Rod Carter and Bill McGhee are gone now but hopefully will live on through their songs. A Little immortality is all one can ask for! Much Love! Many Thanks!
