Lene Lovich's Gloria Swanson-in-Sunset Boulevard-like dramatics served her well in the ridiculously made-up and overdressed early '80s. (Her partner-in-crime Les Chappell also resembles Erich Von Stroheim in more than a passing way.) However, by the time MARCH was released at the end of the '80s, the "new wave" sound and look had been officially over for years.

As a result this CD never received the attention it deserved, although it catches the spirit of the late '80s acid house dance scene. A shame, as tracks like "Rage" would have fit right in on the turntables of 1990. Also included are two mixes of the joyful "Wonderland" complete with Les Chappell's Viking backing vocals. In typical Lovich fashion there's an obligatory slightly spooky song, "Nightshift," which is actually merely about working late. "Natural Beauty" covers time and aging, but mostly the main theme is love, on tracks as varied as "Life," "Hold On to Love," "Make Believe," and "Shadow Walk." A rare and interesting purchase for fans of the '80s new wave sound.
