Monday Michiru - Nexus (2008)

Brilliant work from Monday Michiru – one of her jazziest records to date, and one of her most soulful too! There's a really deep feel going on here – light years past the basic soul and dancefloor grooves that Monday was cutting a decade ago, with a musically evolved sound that's really tremendous – as full and rich as it is simple and straightforward – filled with righteous themes and that extremely positive vibe we've always loved in Monday's music! The keyboards on the record are handled by Dave Kikoski on a number of tracks – really warm and fluid, and wrapping up Michiru's vocals wonderfully – and other instrumentation includes acoustic bass, trumpet, and some earthy percussion, which makes for a nice contrast with the Fender Rhodes on some tracks. The record's one that makes us proud we've been following Monday's work for so many years – really pleased to see it coming this far forward!
