A superb second album, self-titled, from the Ivory Coast singer-bass player-percussionist-songwriter, who was a member of the culture-crossing band Zap Mama in the 90’s. She continues her musical journey, combining influences from funk, groove, blues and rock with the melodic & rhythmic roots of her West African, Djiboi origins.

In 1985, she joined the band ‘Woya’, initially playing talking drum. They became regional superstars, touring extensively in Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo and Bénin and recording four CD’s. When Woya dissolved, Manou worked with the leader Marcelin Yacé for 3 years in Abidjan. He instigated her bass playing and taught her studio recording techniques. In the mid 90’s she also worked on an album with Ray Lema, before moving to Brussels to become bass player with Zap Mama - also playing drums, djembé & singing. In 1999, she joined the Tambours de Brazza for a short time before forming her own band in 2001, and recording her debut album, “Dida”, in 2002. It received unanimous international critical acclaim. In the following years, she has appeared at concerts & festivals all across Europe, including showcases at Womex in Seville, and Midem in Cannes, where she shared the stage with Mariza, Ilenes Barnes and Stacey Kent. There was also a short US tour.

Manou has a second ‘live’ project “The Manou Gallo Experience” - an explosive trio where she gives free rein to her many influences - a modern African woman of the diaspora. In March 2007 she was Manu Dibango's guest at the Casino de Paris, France for the celebration of his 50th year in music. A 52-minute documentary film “Rhythm Gal” has been made about her incredible life and has been broadcast in mainland Europe. She is also planning UK gigs for 2007.
