Chief Keef - Mansion Musick (2018)

One cannot overstate the influence of Chicago MC Chief Keef on the legion of rappers who rose to prominence following his 2012 drill-rap opus Finally Rich. While his gravelly, sometimes-muffled delivery was being copied to the point that late adopters might not have even known who started the trend, Keef was refining his flows, expanding his stylistic repertoire throughout countless mixtapes. On Mansion Musick, a project teased since at least 2015, Keef sings over the Rocky theme (“Get This Money”), rides ethereal synth waves with Atlanta upstart Playboi Carti (“Uh Uh”), and raps through a cartoony vocal filter (“TV On”). At just 11 songs, Mansion Musick is also crisp and compact, with Keef as dialed-in as he’s ever been.
