Adam Scrimshire started making music on an Amiga 500 with a Yamaha Tone Generator and an 8-Bit Sampler at the age of 14. Surrounded by his family’s shared love for vinyl and dancing he was perhaps surprisingly the only one to decide he wanted to make the stuff.

Being born in Rugby the sound of Saturday Night on Mercia Sound had been a formative experience, as it was then, dance music influenced heavily by jazz funk and fusion sounds from the likes of Herbie Hancock to Freeez. But music played at home througout his childhood ranged from classical, to big band jazz, to funk and soul and a little prog rock or electronica here and there.

When he eventually discovered the desire to play it was initially on keyboard, but curiosity drew him to the drums and then guitar, mostly with the desire to understand the instruments he was by then writing for.
Adam set up his first band at 17, working with 4 vocalists and playing all the music off his Amiga and a guitar. After moving to London to study audio engineering at 18 he created a band with friends Rob Hynd (The Low Road, Mistaken) and Paul Hodson (now bass player in the Scrimshire live band), mostly playing keys and sequenced beats.

In 2006 Adam delivered demos for the new Scrimshire project to Dom Servini at Wah Wah 45s – two tracks, later released as, Long Time and I Was Love. And in 2007 his first single featuring Jessica Lauren – You Will Save Me was released.

Understandably Scrimshire’s sound is steeped in jazz, soul and funk, but with a nod to contemporary sounds, and with strong popular song writing sensibilities.

As a singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and now label boss at Wah Wah, Adam wears a good few hats. But above all, this man knows how to write a tune!

Scrimshire has now delivered two albums on Wah Wah 45s, “Along came the Devil one night…” and “The Hollow” as well as his own “Allo Love” compilation album featuring some of his favourite artists. His third album will arrive in the first half of 2013.

The Scrimshire live show sees Adam switching between singing, guitar and electronics accompanied by a full live band including most regularly Faye Houston on vocals. The five piece delivers live looping, fast afrobeat and electronic driven beats combined with moments of downbeat heaviness that has excited people in the smallest venues as well as on big stages like Koko.

As a DJ, Scrimshire is a surefire party starter. His sets combine boogie, funk, house, afro-beat, and just about anything else that takes his fancy, sublimely put together live in the mix with the guarantee of dance floor satisfaction.

“A late contender for album of the year and possibly one of the best album’s Wah Wah 45s has put out” Gilles Peterson on The Hollow
