In the 1960s, Barbara Lynn repeatedly hit the national charts with her theme of defiant hurt set to the rhythms of Crescent City R&B. With her only Jamie album released after her initial success, most of her singles have been unavailable for many years. This collection brings together the best-known and fullest collection of Barbara’s stellar early career as reflected in her Jamie singles collection.
One of the most original voices of the 1960s, she has proved to be an enduring, deeply-felt and modern voice of Southern soul brought to new audiences by the Rolling Stones\' cover of her song \"Oh! Baby (We Got a Good Thing Goin’),\" Moby\'s sample of her work, and her large international following. This 2-CD set puts her breakthrough single, \"You\'ll Lose a Good Thing,” in the context of 15 single releases she recorded for Jamie from 1962 to 1965 and includes such classic chart records as \"It\'s Better to Have It,\" \"Don\'t Spread It Around\" and \"You\'re Gonna Need Me.\"
She recorded with famous musicians like multi-instrumentalist Dr. John at the legendary Cosimo studio in New Orleans. It was a magical time when a pert 20-year-old with a left-handed guitar could break into the national charts with just her own song in her own voice, propelled forward by a defiant but sweet talent that just would not be pushed around.
