Created over the course of 2 years, from 2016 - 2017, A-0’s second solo album Global Violence was composed as a response to the ever intensifying consumption of physical and mental violence transmitted through various forms of media. War in the Middle East, police brutality, weapons technology and surveillance, and political volatility served as the basis for each piece and reinterpreted into the auditory realm. These themes were then utilized by writer and artist Jahmal B. Golden, to create track names that when read consecutively, give way to poetry.
Applying the idea of maximalist composition, the music seeks to fill the entirety of the frequency spectrum and space, overwhelming the listener with crackling distortion, searing feedback, and lush low end, resolving into tentative ambience and temporary tranquility. Sonic themes of weaponry and reverberating shells appear throughout the album as an eerie reminder that even the most peaceful of moments cannot last forever.
Technically, A-0 utilized production techniques such as granular synthesis, 4-Tracks/Tape, guitar pedals/amps, and a variety of digital mangling to create affecting textures, divergent arrangements, and sonorous melodies.
