For fans of 70's "supersessions", "Music From Free Creek" can't be beat! In February 1970, several musicians got together for an organized jam live in the studio. The album was released on the Charisma label in 1973 with Hipgnosis designed cover. It was barely noticed, probably due to poor distribution and Clapton's & Beck's usage of pseudonyms due to contractual obligations. Various members of the following bands were there: Traffic, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Utopia, The Eagles, The Byrds, Canned Heat, Buddy Rich Big Band, Woody Herman Band, Ashford & Simpson, Delaney And Bonnie, ELP, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Blood, Sweat & Tears, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Flying Burrito Brothers, Michael Nesmith & The First National Band, Three Dog Night, Janis Joplin, and Neil Diamond.
The album is bluesy and jazzy, not hard rock; more in a soulful funky vein. Jeff Beck's tracks are a bit similar to the "Blow By Blow" sound. Wicked organ solos from Keith Emerson and (primarily) Moogy Klingman; bluesy guitar work from Clapton, Rundgren and Beck (including psychedelic backwards-recorded guitar on at least two songs); funky drums (courtesy Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell in some cases); and great vocals, especially from a very young Linda Ronstadt on her two songs. The songs include covers of Beatles, Dylan, Rolling Stones, Edgar Winter, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and some blues rock standards.

Music From Free Creek is an album from a series of 1969 "super session" recordings by Free Creek, a group composed of a number of internationally renowned musical artists of the time, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Keith Emerson, Mitch Mitchell and Linda Ronstadt. As described by one reviewer, "Music From Free Creek is a super session album, where the musicians are playing for the fun of it, and that comes across. The material doesn't get bogged down in 'names'; it just flows."
The recordings, made in 1969, were released in 1973 in England as CADS 101 by Charisma Records and in the U.S. by Buddah Records, as a two-record set. The material was re-released by Charisma in 1976, as Summit Meeting. It was released on CD by Lake Eerie Records in 2002, and re-released by the same company in 2006. The 2006 CD states on its inlay card Digitally Remastered, but there is no other information to support this claim - the CD states only 1973 as production date, with 2006 added as a copyright date.
