Jori Hulkkonen - Nuclear Winter Garden (2017)

The northern hemisphere, specifically Scandinavian Europe, has been a monumental pillar in the story of house and techno music. Everybody knows it but few are willing to namedrop anything apart from the over-referenced cities of Berlin, London etc. In this respect, Finland's Jori Holkunnen has always been an underrated talent in our opinion, and his output for F Communications has been particularly important to the development of house beyond the predictable 4/4 format. In what is his 22nd year in the production game, Jori returns to Canada's My Favourite Robot label with an extended EP of pseudo house and beat-driven electronica. Seeing as there is no way to describe these diverse tunes in terms of one genre, we've decided to let you do the exploration, but what we can tell you is that they are fit for someone looking for something different and fresh to drop into their DJ set; in a world of balearic charm, watery house and dubbed-out IDM, the king Jori Holkunnen thrives and conquers all.
