Singin' Some Soul was an ambitious project of Fania's co-founder Jerry Masucci. He sought out young, gifted and brown singer Joe Bataan and set out to make his mark in the R&B world with an all English language soul album. The session players included R&B greats Cornell Dupree and Bernard Purdie, who gave Joe
a back beat-laden soundscape to throw down his vocal chops as
only Joe can do. Arrangers Harold Wheeler (of Nina Simone fame)
and legendary Jazz producer Marty Sheller controlled the mixing board and the results were spectacular. The Motown sound meets Spanish Harlem!
